Free diving in the Metro with SidLaya Ph

Did you know that Philippines is made out of 7,641 islands and out of these islands, only 2,000 are inhabited. Growing up in a tropical island is really nice as you are surrounded by pristine white sand beaches, clear blue water and lots of palm trees.

However, whenever I travel in different parts of the Philippines and even outside the country, I see a lot of fellow Filipinos who wear a life vest because they cannot swim. Yes, it’s ironic right? And I am guilty cause I’m one of them.

I love going to the beach, get a sandy feet, and salty hair but it always ruin the fun when I want to go underwater but my fear of drowning is hindering me to do so. My parents even enrolled me in swimming classes when I was young. Also, swimming class is a pre-requisite for me to graduate college, but I don’t know why I’m still afraid to swim in an open water without a life vest.

So early this year, I challenged myself to face my fear of depth. I was watching different YouTube videos on how to swim and my curiosity was led to learning about free diving. I went through my social media and saw a lot of groups that conducts free diving lesson.

I came across SidLaya PH‘s Facebook page cause they offer an affordable price (Php 1,400 includes pool fee, coach fee, and gears) for a 3 hour free diving lesson. That’s not the only reason why I chose them but there are two additional reasons why I reached out to them.

  • The can teach you depending on your preferred schedule. Yes, that’s right! Morning, afternoon, and even evening, they will accommodate you.
  • There are no required minimum participants for the class to push through. If you’re the only one who enrolled for that day, you’re lucky! You’ll have full attention from your Coach!

The coaches are so friendly, patient and knowledgeable in what they do. You can really feel that they are eager to share what they know about free diving to their students. Coach Judy and Coach Aj have been superb! I really learned a lot from them and made me feel at ease especially I’m a non-swimmer.

I came to a realization that learning free diving isn’t just to conquer my fear but also a good investment as it’s a life skill. Since I love to travel and go to the beach, I can now freely enjoy my trip without worrying of getting drowned or having a life vest while in an open water.
